Revolutionary Road

Howdy hi everybody! I'm a bit unsure of how much outfit posting I am going to be able to fit in this week and I know for a fact that I will not be able to do a 4th of July post as Ruby Tuesday's will temporarily have possession of my soul this weekend. That being said, I decided I would celebrate our country's independence a week early! I threw this outfit together and concluded it reminded me of something Kate Winslet's character in Revolutionary Road would wear.

He is barely visible, but I had a little wildlife encounter in the woods with a deer. If you look really closely over my left shoulder you can see, very faintly though, my deer friend!! Its kind of like playing eye spy, but he's there!!

Outfit Details: Blouse...Forever 21, Vans...Journeys, Shorts, scarf, belt...thrifted

I looked up some quotes from Revolutionary Road and found one I especially loved said, by Kate Winslet as April:
"If being crazy means living life as if it matters, then I don't mind being completely insane."

A dress and a DIY

Last summer, while up in Portland, Maine. My friend Hayley and I went to see my favorite band Guster in concert. The lead singer from one of the opening acts was wearing this dress and I just fell in love with its pea green color and flowy jersey fabric. The next day while exploring shops in cute downtown Portland, we found the exact same dress and I bought it on the spot.

So I'm a big do-it yourselfer. I like to fix things and make them pretty. The heel on one of my espadrilles broke and I basically managed to cobble the thing back together so I could wear them once again. I also recently found this lamp at the Salvation Army and it reminded me of one that my grandmother owned. I loved the milk glass shade, but the faux brushed nickel finish left something to be desired. I ran to the hardware store and located this sweet tangerine spraypaint et voila new lamp. I just love it.I love lamp(sorry I had to reference Anchorman).

'I'm just a penny on the train track'

(Title lyric from Ben Kweller)

Well hello stranger! Man, I've been working my little butt off waitressing. I worked everyday this weekend and Father's Day was crazy, but I made a TON of money so I am perfectly okay with that. So that is where I have been, running around like a mad woman delivering wrong orders to people because I am probably the worst waitress ever. Ooops.

Anyway, I live literally next door to these train tracks(thank god the train only comes through once around noontime because that thing is LOUD) and have been wanting to take photos here for like ever. I always love when people take photos by train tracks. It gives the photos a kind of vagabond feel, like the person in them is on their way to hop aboard a moving train and stowaway.
Sometimes I wish I could lead the vagabond/nomad life and just see where life takes me, but with responsibilities and bills to be paid, unfortunately that could never be the case.

Also, expect to see me in longer skirts now. I love this calf length and even though it is mad hot outside these flowy things keep it breezy and comfy, not to mention that my legs don't stick to my hot leather car seats which is always a plus!I just bought a ton at the thrift store in so many great colors and prints, can't wait to show them all!!

Girl Inform Me

Well I have been conveniently awol for almost a week now and I am going to use the terrible weather, working like a dog, and laziness in my free time as a scapegoat. I seriously need to be getting my stuff together right now and as today is one of my only days off this week, I took advantage of a little free time I had this morning to take these photos. Not the most exciting shoot, I know but I'm getting to share some recent thrifts (shorts, sunnies, and purse) and also get to showcase one of my three awesome bicycles. The awesome thing about my peugeot road bike is that I got it for free at the dump and recently saw the exact model in worse condition being sold at an antiques store for $125.

What else? Oh this is like last weeks news and all but the lovely Rachel of Mousevox Vintage did a blog feature on me which you can read HERE.

Also, today marks the last day to enter the Shabby Apple Giveaway, which ends at 8pm ET. So get over there to enter for your chance to win a free dress of your choice!!!!

Echo and Narcissus

Those lazy days of summer are definitely beginning to kick in. When I'm not waiting tables all I want to do is lounge around and watch terrible movies on showtime. I've even been letting my usual O.C.D. cleaning regiment get out of hand. Obviously this bout of laziness is in some way shape or form going to affect this post.I didn't even get dressed yesterday until 2p.m. Ethan got dragged into being my photog for the afternoon and he has a knack for catching me off guard getting some priceless pictures.

For example:

And because I need some sort of semblance of a good photograph of me on this blog:

Outfit Details: Blouse...Gap, Shorts...DIY, Shoes...snagged from my Etsy, Purse...Levis

I need to shake this laziness and get with it. I'm working a double today! And since I have the next two days off, I want to fit an Etsy Update (fingers crossed) in there. We shall see, don't get your hopes up...

Friday Musings

Down with photobucket! Flickr is where its at!! Woo I am so loving the size of these pictures right now. I officially a Flikr convert, it is faster and much easier to use. Anywhoo, Its gray and icky out so I decided to stay in today for photos. These are some of my thrifts this past weekend. I love this skirt, but its a bit large on me so I must take it in at some point. I also got this eyelet blouse and want to put it in the shop, but am highly debating on whether or not I should just keep it. Speaking of the shop, will somebody please buy this basket purse?!? (Seen on the shelf behind me) Somebody has to buy it or I'm just going to give in and keep it all for myself!!Really, guys I have such terrible self control.

Outfit Details: All thrifted

This is my drinking coffee place. I love to look out the window, while sitting in my comfy pink slipper chair.Picture_108
This beautiful quilt was made from vintage fabrics that my amazing Great Aunt Jo collected over her lifetime and was sewn together after she died by my Aunt. Aunt Josephine was probably the coolest old lady, stubborn as a bull and completely self-sufficient. She had the greatest house too complete with an antique hand washing machine(which she used until her death) and puzzle pictures all over the house. She also made some fantastic strawberry rhubarb pie. I wish I had been around when they were cleaning out her home after she died(she had no children to pass anything along) that place would have been a goldmine for vintage fiends such as myself!
Happy Weekend! Stay tuned for a giveaway on Monday!

You've still got a view of the summer sky

I had been looking high and low for a white dress these days and was oh so lucky to find this Ralph Lauren eyelet number at the Salvation army and man does it fit like a glove! Its the perfect summer dress, so expect to see it a bunch this summer!
I got a lot of compliments the last time I wore this purse and it is one of my all-time favorites. It is made from an old vinyl tablecloth recycled into a handbag. I've had it a few years and it looks brand new since the thing never gets dirty. I bought it at a vintage store in Brattleboro, VT, but have seen similar ones in little stores all over, so keep your eyes peeled!

Look for these boots going up in the shop sometime in the next week! They are perfect for tromping around in the woods with cute summer dresses!

Outfit Details: All thrifted except for Purse bought in some shop in Brattleboro, VT.
