Summer Reading List

I adore reading in the summertime.I love to go outside and sit in a field somewhere underneath the shade of a big oak and just read on a blanket. Seriously there is nothing better. This year, I've decided to make a list of books that I want to read. some of them I've never read and some I've read in High School and want to re-read them. I'm going to share that list with you guys and would also love some recommendations!! At the end of the summer, we'll see what I got through!

Anna Karenina By Leo Tolstoy
A Clockwork Orange By Anthony Burgess
Nine Stories by J.D. Salinger
The Sun Also Rises By Ernest Hemingway
Atlas Shrugged By Ayn Rand
Siddhartha By Herman Hesse
The Stranger By Albert Camus
Slaughterhouse 9 By Kurt Vonnegut
A Prayer For Owen Meany By John Irving
Alice's Adventures in Wonderland &Through the Looking Glass By Lewis Carroll
Suite Francaise By Irene Nemirovsky
The Scarlet Letter By Nathaniel Hawthorne
Tess Of The D'Urbervilles By Thomas Harding

Outfit Details: All thrifted except for Wal-mart Sandals.

I better get started reading, that is quite the list!!

  1. wow you are motivated!

I read Nine Stories last summer and loved it! And I was practically the only kid who enjoyed the Scarlet Letter when we read it in highschool haha

  2. You really are motivated! I really like L'étranger by Albert Camus, I read it in high school, weird but good weird. I like your long dress, I really like this long skirt revival :)

  3. gorgeous outfit
i wish it was sunnier here to sit under a tree and read all day :(

  4. Aw, that sounds so nice, maybe i should read one of your recommendations under a tree too :D I like your outfit, very sweet! xxxx

  5. Since Mr. Salinger's passing, I've been thinking of rereading some of his works again. This is a very cool reading list. You look very elegant in your long sundress and straw hat. those sandals are a wal-mart score. I love how you are a gifted thrifter. It makes it so easy to identify with you.

  6. I love your hat. You've got quite the summer ahead of you!

  7. Cute! I can totally see that as being like, the perfect reading-under-a-tree outfit.

And wow, those are some serious books. Haha. my reading list is like, read the new "Poseur" book and whatnot. But now you've inspired me, and maybe I will read some serious books this summer.

  8. yay! i've read a lot of these (i was an english major!) and tess of the d'urbervilles is one of my very favorites! and i loved anna karinena. i need a new book to read. i'm not sure what i want though. but i do love your dress. i need another maxi skirt or dress. they just feel so amazing on a hot summer day.

  9. I've started my summer reading list also, there is nothing better than getting engulfed in a book and not being able to wait to read the rest of it.

And this maxi dress is just amazing, I am absolutely enamored with them this summer.

  10. Goodness, your style is so romantic. I'm not usually into maxi dresses, but I think this one has changed my mind. And I want a boater hat!!! Love, Annie.

  11. Look at you all sleek and sultry in your maxi dress!

I've read all of the books on your list. You're going to have such a perfectly poetic Summer!

  12. Such a great reading list!!! I really want to read Anna Karenina, A Clockwork Orange, The Great Gatsby (again), Crime and Punishment, Alice in Wonderland, Catcher in the Rye!!! Can't wait to start :)

  13. I have a reading list too. Right now it is a lengthy one: I have one single book I have any desire to read.

  14. great outfit and reading list! there are a few of those there that i have on my reading list, perhaps i should make a winter one. haha.

good luck with reading them all! i love the feeling that comes with finishing a good book. enjoy your summer!

  15. i read anna karenina last summer- its a tough one to get through! try anything by capote! I just finished reading Breakfast at tiffanys and loved every page of it!

  16. that is my ideal summer day :) too bad my boyfriend always gets bored when i try to rope him into lounging in the sun with me...

you should check out some of the books on my recommended reading list. it sounds like we have pretty similar tastes!

  17. oh, you make me wish i were a good reader. i always get to the bottom of the page just to realize i was daydreaming the whole time! love the polka dots.

  18. I love reading during the summer! Your outfit is lovely! Greta hat!!

  19. good luck getting through all of those!i love your outfit, especially the hat! xx

  22. fantastic list! i never read outside even though in this country i should try and get as much sun as i can - i'm cooped up indoors in bed reading!

i'm ashamed to say i only got halfway through Anna Karenina and gave up, that was three years ago. I've also started The Scarlet Letter and Tess Of The D'Urbervilles and not finished! I've been told that Hardy is an acquired taste.

Great outfit! I usually kip our in my slobby PJs :P

  23. found you from weardrobe.com =) following! htbui.blogspot.com "Favorite Wedges" if you love my shoes. please feel free to "heart" me for weardrobe.com shoe contest =) thanks!

btw.. got to love walmart!. cute sandels!!

  24. :O!!! love the dress!!! so beautiful!

  25. you just named a TON of my absolute favorite novels of all time - no joke..

if you haven't read "a clockwork orange" yet, i suggest getting the translation glossary as a reference point so that you don't get bogged down in the sometimes complex usage of futuristic yiddish and cockney rhyme-slang. that book changed my life.

others you mentioned that are dear favorites are slaughterhouse-five, the scarlet letter and of course the stranger - camus is BRILLIANT! i remember reading these novels in high school and falling in love with them...

you'll have a great time lounging around reading these classics! fabulous list :)

  26. Adorable dress! And I think I have those sandals.

  27. Ah, I have some of the same books on my summer reading list! Though, I must say, The Scarlet Letter is probably the worst book I've ever read, but I would recommend the one I've just finished, Transgression by James Nichol. Honestly, one of the best books I've read in a long time!

  28. I haven't read all of these, but Anna Karenina was pretty awesome, Atlas Shrugged literally BLEW MY MIND, not that I didn't take it with a grain of salt, and Slaughterhouse-9 was pretty much amazing too. It kinda blew my mind also, but I had to read it twice to comprehend all of it's amazingness. Atlas Shrugged kind of shoves that amazingness down your throat so there is no way you can miss it ;)
