Sunshine on a Cloudy Day

I was complaining in a prior post that I rarely smile in photos, but today I couldn't help but show off my pearly whites. It must be that I'm wearing an outfit that I love to bits and the fact that I had the most lovely day off driving all over Massachussetts stopping in antique stores with Ethan that evoked such a huge grin on my normally dour-looking face.
I was so incredibly enthused to have driven past this out of a storybook stone church which overlooked a magical lake. It was overcast and freezing outside, especially when I was outfitted in a more spring like get-up, but I cannot help myself anymore dressing for warmer climes;
If I think spring, can I will it to come faster??

If you look closely you can see the choo choo trains in the background.

Town and Country

I was just looking at Tommy Hilfiger's Fall/Winter 2010 Collection and I have to say I want to immediately jump into these clothes right now.

In these looks I'm imagining tromping through the woods in the warm tweeds and soft knits, fallen leaves crunching under those beautiful boots as the quiet, first snow begins to blanket the earth.
Yeah, I just day dreamed about winter for once! Woah!

The below looks are more city, but nonetheless, very pretty and sophisticated. I love that sequined blazer in the last look! The belts and shoes really are to die for in this collection.

I'm also planning on doing a giveaway soon, so stay tuned!

Rosie in Wonderland

This Rodarte for Target dress was on the clearance rack. I was unable to pass it up, I'm such a sucker for bargains! The dress is the cutest thing ever and reminds me so much of something Alice would wear to tea party with the Mad Hatter. I paired it with my pointelle socks from Forever 21, my t-strap mary janes, and a thrifted scarf and coat.

I cannot wait to check out Tim Burton's spin on Alice in Wonderland. It looks almost creepy and dark but I think that is the direction that Lewis Caroll was going in, but Disney felt the need to sugar coat it, so I think his interpretation will be interesting!

Random fact of the day via my cluttered brain:
The term 'Mad hatter' has an interesting background. It is what they used to call the people who went insane from the mercury that seeped into their brain from top hats, which they used to dip in mercury to keep them stiff.

Rosie and the Chocolate Factory

This Sunday, Ethan and I went to the Hebert Candy mansion, which in theory sounds like the most magical place ever, right? Well not exactly.I'm not too disappointed that I forgot my camera yesterday because this place was not all it cracked up to be. I guess I had high expectations of lollipop chandeliers, giant chocolate fountains, and little orange men with green hair running around singing. Basically it was a candy shoppe in the main floor of a mansion. And not even a cool looking mansion at that. There was no whimsy or imagination whatsoever, and really not a large selection of candy.Too bad, so sad.
Ethan and I spent the rest of the afternoon driving around looking for antique stores (we only found one surprisingly). When we got back I took these pictures below of what I wore (my outfit is a blatant ripoff of one of Alexa Chung's Madewell outfits) and watched the Julie Christie version of Dr. Zhivago on TCM. I'd seen the Exxon Mobil masterpiece theatre version on PBS back in High School and read the novel, but still had not seen the original version. Besides falling asleep in the middle (I was really tuckered out from our excursions) and waking up to see the end, I really enjoyed this version with its old-timey sweeping epic romance and beautiful landscape shots of the Urals in Russia.

Jay Leno's Day Off.

I never thought that I would resort to wearing denim on denim, but as I have seen it being pulled off so well by lovely ladies like Stephanie Renee from dores, I had to give it a try. I used to make fun of people for it, calling their ensemble 'joufits'(jean outfits). Never say never, I suppose. I thrifted the denim oxford for really cheap, but its a tad too big for me.

Also, while I'm on a rambling roll, how come I seem to look so mad in my photos? Makes sense why I get complete strangers on the street telling me to smile(which I hate, by the way). I'm not unhappy, I guess I'm just not a smiley kind of person? If I look this mad on an average day, imagine what I'm like on a mad day. I would not want to cross paths with me. Death glares galore.
Needless to say, today will not be an unhappy day. Why you may ask?

Ethan and I are going to what may be the coolest place ever... The Hebert Candy Mansion. A CANDY MANSION for crying out loud! A mansion full of candy? How could today not rule!

Rumor Mill

There is a misconception out there that brown and black clash, but I think when the two are mixed it looks super sophisticated. I'm wearing shorts again, but I honestly if I wear thick enough tights, my toothpick legs stay nice and toasty. I found this pretty satin scarf at the Salvation army, along with these oxfords which are seriously the comfy-est shoes ever! And they were only $2.50, what a steal considering I almost caved and bought a pair online for a million times that price. The cognac color is perfect too since a lot of my purses and belts are that color!

We're still living with Ethan's parents, we're trying to save money before we move. Its the right thing to do, for sure, but I am getting really exhausted with the wait. We were supposed to have our own place at the end of last summer and it keeps getting pushed back and back. I'm grateful I have a roof over my head and food on the table, but I just wish I could have some sense of independence. I just need to be patient... but seriously lets hurry up!

Fashion is a Playground

Everyone must absolutely go check this girl out. I found her on Chictopia.com the other day and was mesmerized by her perfectly Parisian style. This girl seriously has got it. Her blog is in French, but even if you don't read french, you will be overwhelmed(in a good way) with the overload of her quirky, unique style and the magical french country and city backdrops in which she takes her photographs. Divine. Please do yourself a favor and check out Fashion is A Playground pronto!

All photos are property of Fashion is a Playground

P.S. I went thrifting yesterday and scored some awesome shoe finds! I'm starting to keep track of my inventory so I can get Rosemud vintage going soon! Finally found some motivation!
P.P.S. Thanks to Fabsugar.com for featuring me as their Look of the Day!

Shorts in the snow and fogged up glasses

New England has finally received that snowstorm that has been evading us and instead has been terrorizing the rest of the United States in strange places like Texas. Freaking El NiƱo. I wish I didn't talk about weather so much in this blog, but seeing as it affects my outfit choices so intensely, I guess it is only inevitable. Sorry if I'm starting to sound like the weather channel.
So here is what I wore today, in honor of Alexa Chung's fantastic collaboration with Madewell (see prior post)

I made the mistake of wearing my glasses today for these photos, they got all foggy and wet. I should have yanked 'em off, but whatever. I would have worn cuter shoes too, but seeing as I was trudging through snow, my Pocahontas fringe boots from Target would work alright. I even wore those gray tights I promised to wear. I love my shorts from Forever 21 (notice the cute brown buttons), but wish they could be a bit more highwaisted (what can i say, I'm a sucker for it).

Jill of all Trades

This girl can literally do it all. Alexa Chung you are my hero. I think I could literally gush about Alexa Chung for Madewell Fall 2010 for hours. It is so sweet and romantic with the perfect amount of tomboy. I am sligtly reminiscent of my childhood with the most adorable Osh Kosh B'gosh overalls made for big girls. ( I think I am most excited for the overall dresses, they are so comfy!). The highwaisted jeans need to be in my closet right this moment! I am so over my butt crack hanging out when I wear jeans!

And the shooooooes. They are all so perfect. And its settled, I'm wearing my gray knit socks today!
As far as pricing goes, I'm familiar with Madewell's crazy idea of how much clothing should cost. I was in a store a mere week ago and found myself ooggling over a pair of shoes for $150 and a mini skirt, which was probably less than a yard of fabric for $80. Luckily these items look easily thriftable. Salvation Army, here I come! Somebody point me in the direction of the Osh Kosh B'gosh!

RW+EL= LOVE

I'm a little off in my posting, but here is what I wore for Valentines Day. I usually don't make a big fuss over the holiday, but since I've been in a little wardrobe rut lately, it was fun to dress up for the occasion. (Random side note, my Grandmother's maiden name was Hart and she was born on Valentines Day. Pretty neat, huh?)

BLUE STEEL.

Outfit details: Cardigan: Target, Skirt: FE21, Tights: NY&CO, Oxfords: Aldo

I even tried something new with my hair (you can't see it very well in my picture). I like to call it "The Snooki". I didn't even need a bump-it (for once my crazy thick hair comes in handy). I really was more inspired from Orchid Grey's post awhile back on how she styles her beautiful mane. I just love the Bridget Bardot look!
As far as what Ethan and I did, we had dinner with his parents and the neighbors who brought over some delicious peach cobbler. Ethan went out of his way with an adorable bouquet in which he selected basically every flower in the shop, including tulips, my favorite. He even made a heart on the bed out of Twilight Valentines candy(Yes, I enjoy Twilight. GO TEAM EDWARD!!). The candy says really lame things like 'bite me' and 'live 4 ever'. It is basically awesome, although it tastes gross. I hope you all had a nice day as well!

Opening Ceremonies

... Pendleton Meets Opening Ceremony S/S 2010 Look book, to be exact. Yes, I am at it again, this time I am projecting into the Summertime where I can break out my sundresses and madras plaid. I would love to be on this beach riding around on my bike right now!

I especially love all of the sunglasses she is wearing. Perfection.

As far as opening ceremonies for the Olympics go tonight, I cannot wait for the figure skating! What do you guys like to watch?

In-spring-ational

Since the northeast is anticipating a MAJOR snowstorm today, I feel it is only appropriate to go fake Springtime shopping online. Two designers who have been really influencing my Springtime looks are A.P.C. and Orla Kiely SS2010(Yes I am aware that these two designers have been blogged and blogged about. I don't care, I also think they're fantastic.).

A.P.C is perfectly pulling off a seventies vibe which is making me want to trade in my skinny jeans for bell-bottoms and my flats for some clunky clogs.
Above from Left to right: Cardigan- Forever21, Bag-Rachel Comey for UO, Bell-bottoms: Heritage 81 for Forever21, Clogs with pointelle socks , image found via Google image search Sunglasses- Forever21 Mustard Vest-Forever21

Orla Keily SS 2010 has this simple vintage thing going on which I am loving. These mint green hues make me want to just frolic in fields of dandelions. By the way, I love how the last girl's skirt clearly looks like she is one of the Von Trapp children with her skirt made out of curtain! I want one!

Sorry to torture you all, I just needed a little escape! For all of you who are about to get snowed in, or for those of you who already are...stay warm and drink some hot cocoa with fluff! I know I will! Cheers!

p.s. If you are suffering from the wintertime blahs this video will surely cheer you up :)
